Most high-value properties have sophisticated security alarm systems fitted along with the most advanced physical security locks and barriers. However, experience has shown that a professional criminal can, with determination, still gain entry into well-secured properties. It is also true that any alarm system is only as good as the security response to it once triggered. The surest method to ensure a property is secure is to have on-site security personnel. Horizon Middle East can supply trained security professionals to keep business and residential properties safe and secure, providing protection and eliminating the threat of crime.

We can provide anything from a single operative to a full residential security team. Horizon ME uniformed security guards carry out their role with a flexible approach and will implement any security measures diplomatically and discreetly to minimise the impact their presence.

Following an in-depth assessment to evaluate existing security measures and identify any vulnerability, recommendations, if required, will be made and, in consultation with the client, a comprehensive security plan will be produced.

Examples of the duties our security professionals can provide:

• Vetting and monitoring workmen/tradesmen that carry out work on the property (vetting is particularly important if the client and other residents are away);
• When the client and their household are present, the security operative will, if appropriate, control entry/exit to the property to deter unwanted visitors;
• Searching of the property, vehicles and persons will be carried out in line with the security plan and in conjunction with the client;
• The security operative will patrol and monitor not only the property but the environs around the property, to identify any threat at the earliest opportunity and to check the client’s outbuildings and vehicles;
• Horizon ME can further provide security operatives who are trained fire wardens or emergency medical responder's. This is valuable in areas where National emergency services are limited or under-resourced, or occupants within the property suffer from medical ailments;
• It is normal practice for the security operative to be responsible for any electronic surveillance, fire and/or intruder alarm systems at the residence;
• For some clients, it may be necessary for the security operative to screen parcels or other deliveries to the property.

The most important duty of any security operative, is to make the property as secure as is reasonably possible, without their presence being an inconvenience to the client.

We understand the extensive risk management needs of media organisations – especially their teams deployed into conflict-affected regions. We provide specialist situational awareness and medical training for media teams working in developing or hostile places. We also offer physical protection, audience protection/guidance and security of a set protection allowing media teams to conduct their activities in confidence without disruption.

Production Security

Guided by the expertise of our film and location consultants, our onsite security not only ensures the personal safety of cast and crew, we also deliver our service in accordance with Health & Safety Regulations. We can also provide staff with different levels of first aid qualifications. Horizon has a wealth of experience, having worked with multiple location Managers, Production Managers and Production Coordinators to formulate comprehensive, bespoke security plans appropriate to the needs of each location and shoot requirements.

After an agreement is reached regarding security requirements:

• A fully itemised and agreed price plan will be prepared for security provision for your production;
• We provide assistance in liaising with appropriate authorities and emergency services local to the production location;
• Establishment of a ‘sterile’ area for filming to take place is enabled;
• Provision is made for a secure area for all vehicles and equipment.

Horizon Middle East are able to meet all security requirements that may be associated with Film and Television ‘location’ projects. These include:

• Static guards to control the integrity and entry/exit of the ‘location shoot’ site;
• Overnight/weekend guards to secure the ‘location’ (and equipment/vehicles) on longer shoots between production activity;
• Traffic control marshal’s and associated equipment;
• Crowd control stewards for high profile and urban filming locations;
• Personal protection operatives for high profile ‘talent’, including security drivers to transport celebrities to/from the ‘location’ site.

Is your organisation adequately prepared for a crisis? 

Non-routine interruptions or crises, can have a catastrophic effect on the operations, financials and reputation of an organisation. Crises such as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic leading to illness of key staff, major fire by lax safety culture, or communication systems failure, could make it near impossible to the continuation of normal business activities. The following methodology should be considered when producing the plan:

Identification - What are the potential crises that could affect your organisation? 

Establish - How does your organisation intend to minimise the risks of such crises occurring? 

Explain - How will your organisation react if a crisis occurs? Incident management, levels of response, decision making and communications;

Scenario Testing - As the threat landscape can continually evolve, so must the response mechanisms of your organisation. 

There are many possible events that might constitute a crisis within your organisation, these will be relative to the type of business you are in, the geographical locations of your business and human/organisational/social/technical and economical factors.

• Pandemic or Disease Outbreak - COVID-19 has tested the robustness of many organisations ability to continue normal business routine;
• Natural Disasters- for example, flooding caused by heavy tropical rainfall or earthquakes;
• Theft, Vandalism or Sabotage - Human choice to thieve client personal information or your organisation's intellectual property, could prove devastating. Similarly, vandalism or sabotage of equipment, could not only be costly but also pose health and safety risks;
• Social Breakdown - An external factor quite relative with the current COVID-19 pandemic;
• Fire - Few other situations have such potential to physically destroy a business from top to bottom;

Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT)

Our Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) course has been specifically designed to cover all the relative subjects that relate to non-governmental organisations, media, listed charities, aid agencies, private security companies and blue-chip companies operating in potentially volatile areas around the world. Whether it be in a humanitarian, disaster or war zone situation, various risks arise from working in these hostile and challenging environments.

Our course includes both security and medical related subjects to ensure that learners are fully aware and trained for the environments they may operate in. Security lessons consist of planning, risk assessments, site security, crisis management, kidnap, detainment, conflict management, cash security and bribery and corruption to name a few. The medical portion of the course teaches learners basic first aid to begin with, then brings these skills to a higher level to deal with trauma related injuries. 

At the end of the course, learners are put through a series of scenarios that are based on real life situations that have occurred to test the skills learnt during the course. After training, students will be able to confidently deal with trauma related injuries in a calm and professional manner. 

Kidnap & Ransom (K&R)

Horizon’s Kidnap and Ransom courses are delivered to give our clients a realistic grounding in kidnapping operations. We will teach you how to plan to avoid and deal with terrorist and criminal attacks, and teach you practical counter kidnapping procedures and responses to deal with crisis situations. Kidnap and Ransom are on the rise globally and therefore it makes sense that everyone learns strategies to how to deal with being involved in a criminal, terrorist or kidnapping situation. Long gone are the days when only the rich and famous were at risk of being kidnapped by organised criminals and acts of terrorism can affect everyone. 

Our Kidnap prevention courses are aimed at individuals, who travels internationally, for either business or personal reasons; these courses are also relevant for people who are concerned about the safety issues in their daily lives. Our courses will teach you how to put in place realistic security plans and procedures, and how to react and deal with being kidnapped, teaching you how to identify and avoid potential problems.

Hostile Environment Close Protection Operative (HECPO)

The Horizon HECPO course is designed to prepare Close Protection Operatives prior to deploying in what would be described as hostile countries such as Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria. The course fully complies with DODI 3020.50, Private Security Contractors (PSCs) Operating in Contingency and DEFSTAN 05-129 Defence Standards Procedures & Requirements & DEFCON 697, Contractors on Deployed Operations.

Pre-deployment Training

Civilian personnel deploying to theatres of operations must meet mandated pre-deployment requirements. Horizon’s Pre-Deployment Training Course was designed to make this process quick and efficient for deploying personnel. Horizon Middle East will help your teams meet all training requirements. 

The Pre-deployment course ensures the maximum number of fully screened and trained contractors are ready for deployment faster and more efficiently than anyone else. This all-inclusive course includes both a medical and security training portion. 

Defensive Driver Training (Armoured & Soft-skin)

Our Defensive Driver Training (DDT) course is specifically designed by subject matter experts in this field. It offers the client’s organisation enhanced skills to its staff drivers. The majority of accidents in the Middle East happen on the road, it is imperative that drivers have the knowledge to correctly deal with planning, management and delivery of defensive driving and relative procedures in the ME Regions. 

Hazardous environment driver awareness is essential to coping with internal and external security threats that an international or domestic mission can likely face on the ground 

Level 3 Award for the First Person on Scene International (FPOS)

This qualification develops the knowledge and skills required by those working in security services or high risk environments who are required to hold an advanced first aid qualification. The qualification ensures learners are able to provide suitable assistance for a range of medical conditions and trauma related injuries including developing an awareness of ballistic and blast injuries. The qualification supports a role in the workplace and will enable learners to progress to further learning in this sector.

Who is this for? The QNUK Level 3 Award for the First Person on Scene (International) (RQF) is designed for Close Protection Operatives and those working in similar fields, within the UK and internationally. 

Medicine in Remote Areas (MIRA)

The MIRA course has been designed to provide personnel who already have experience in prehospital care, the added skills and knowledge to be able to deal with casualties in remote and challenging environments. The course focuses on stabilisation of the casualty, through to the skills required for prolonged field care until the arrival of the emergency services.

The MIRA course is ideal for medical professionals who work in or want to work within remotes areas as a tier 1 remote medic.
